Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. Thanks for your feedback. The question is, can you actually now get a genuine copy of Windows XP? You certainly won't get a copy from a local computer store. That leaves e-bay and, frankly, a good proportion of copies of XP and other windows operating systems on e-bay etc are pirated copies, so you may be causing more problems for yourself. Maybe it's time to start thinking of a new computer completely, either running Windows 8 or, if you can get one, Windows 7.
Windows does have a 'compatibility' mode which allows you to run software as if you are running it on an earlier edition, but whether you can use this option will be dependant upon the software applications you are currently using. This forum post is my own opinion and does not necessarily reflect the opinion or view of Microsoft, its employees, or other MVPs. Windows Update has nothing to do with upgrading Windows. My applications are only accepted windows XP.

Thats right go through the setup as normal and when it asks you to enter they key enter your OEM it should be fine along as your key is for Windows XP Pro and your Install media is Windows XP Pro, after you do the install see if you have any issues activating it if you do you need to call Microsoft to finish the activation this isn't that painful takes around 5 min Not quite sure what you mean by hardware configuration, if you are installing XP on a system that is runnig RAID you might need RAID drivers or is this a dual boot situation??.

Note that SP3 itself is quite old by now; even with it installed, you'll still need to check Windows Update if it still works for a few more years' worth of patches. MS seem to have removed the XP down-loads from their site, so you are stuck with finding third-party down-loads. If you find more than one with the same MD5 check-sum, and you have a good virus scanner which finds no problems, you will have a degree of assurance that the down-load is safe.
