Ms sql @@servername is null

This output would give me all this information in black and white. This was such a surprise and I wanted to see it in real life. He was kind enough to show me via Skype that this was indeed the case. This got me thinking and I needed to solve this trivial problem.

Finally, after an hour and getting some help from my SQL buddies, I found the deal to crack this problem. Strange but I am sure many of you have encountered this somewhere and were looking for a solution.

Running the following will show the current TSQL value for this property:. Yep, fixing this requires an outage. If the ServerName property is incorrect, run the following to correct the issue:.

Though the solution to this was so simple, I did find it strange about this behavior. I am yet to come to terms this can every happen. If you ever encountered this error on your server, can you please let us know how you landed to this situation. I am eager to learn the cause for this rather than just looking at solution to the problem. I have seen this with automated SQL setups from images. In the past, I would find the servername to be incorrect when they sysadmin team configured an VM from an image that had SQL installed.

You'll need to rerun the setup. Turns out I installed only Management Studio which doesn't come with a server. I downloaded a version with Advanced Tools and now everything works as supposed. I just installed sql server 16 and 17 from here. I can't seem to get the local instance name — adiga.

I installed different versions of SQL server hoping to get an option to install the server. Finally worked when I installed SQL express, there was an option to create servers as well. Now it's working.

The problem I'm getting is in the isnull line which is in Dark green color because inFileVersion is set to null explicitly and when the isnull function evaluates, value returned from DR.

FileVersion is also null which is correct. But it doesn't return anything. And the select statement should return something but in my case it returns null. If I comment the isnull statements in the where clause, everything works fine. Please tell me what am I doing wrong.

For some reason, i can't get the name of the server!! I am getting a null value when i am query the Global variable servername. Please help!! Thanks vIVEk. I recall a method to get the old servername of a SQL server but old age has gotten to me. I suspect a particular server has been renamed at one point. Obviously it wasn't me and the person before me is not around for me to ask.

So, can someone help an old guy out? The results of print servername is NULL. Hey folks, Today's been way too much fun Someone changed the name of a machine in our department and now Win2k thinks the machine's name is for example "Fred", but if I do a select servername, SQL returns again, for example "Barney". The machine's name started out as "Barney". The last time this happened, it was on an NT4 box, and we just reinstalled sql and away we went. This time, they reinstalled sql and released the box to the team, only to find out later that reinstalling sql didn't do squat this time.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I want create replication through Create Publication Wizard. But I have my server with NF name! Please help me!! Thanx in advance!! Thanks, Rui. Someone renamed a server from 2A to A. When I do servername I get 2A. I've scoured the net and premier support for advice on this problem, but the little I found wasn't helpful. I've tried uninstalling SQL Server Express completely including management studio and native client , rebooting, and reinstalling everything, with no luck.

The server obviously does not have a firewall enabled. I've tried stopping the SQL Server installed on the system, no help. If I create a test. I just can't add them as linked servers. I've tried setting up SQL Express to run under the network service account and under a domain account used by the other SQL servers.

Only adding linked SQL servers in Express seems to be broken. Anyone have any other suggestions? I'm totally baffled. Thank you so much for any helpful advice. Has anyone ever experienced the SQL Server unexpectedly rebooting?

Yesterday my SQL Server 7 installation rebooted itself and the error log seemed fine as did the restart. The only evidence I can find was a message in the event viewer's application log stating the the MSSQLServer service terminated unexpectedly. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks, - D. I've a SQL server that intermittently restarts itself mostly during. Its a SQL Server 6. It really has no rhyme or reason to it happening. The are no indications in either the SQL or the Nt events logs.

Has anyone heard of this? Thanks inadvance. However, some automated processes are now feeding data into this server and more users and have started coming online so restarting for this issue has become a big deal.

Thanks, Eamon. Since last couple days whole computer restart every one hours. How can I fix this problem. Any help will be highly appreciated? Hi, I've got a table with a column that contains the status of available licenses to the user, i. If the server goes down, then when it is restarted I need to make sure all the rows in this column describe each license as being available. So the question is how can I ensure data in a table is, if you like, initialized, each time the server is restarted?

Is there a system defined stored proc or trigger than is executed when a server is restarted? I restarted the sql server and the application was fine but after five minutes the same locking issue started happening.

I did a index rebuild the next time on all indexes and everything was fine.
